The predecessor ofYu-Cai Elementary School was the branch of Yuen-Shan public school that was founded in 1918. The school had 13 classrooms and was relocated at present site in 1938. In October 1950, the school officially permitted byYi-Lan County and renamedYu-Cai Elemental School ever since. As time went by, the modern classroom and buildings were added to increase the students’ learning. In 2003, Mr. Liou, Wen-Sing was elected as the principal. Since that, the school enrollment is growing in a steady pace.

The school is located in the southwest suburbs of theYi-Lan City, surrounding by the green rice field that shows the natural learning environment for our students. With 2.0238 hectares of trees and lawns, the campus owns peaceful and pleasing views. The view from the campus differs according to the season. In spring, the green leaves full over the big trunks. The singing of birds and insects makes the most wonderful, joyful, natural harmony. While the shy is clear in summer and you can see the mountain across the other side. The view of different seasons is stunning, making it the best leisure spot of choice for the students and residents.

For the demanding of educational diversity, the former principals have propelled the local community to attend the school activities. One of the school activities is to promote the “Sustain Campus.” According to principal Liou, “Sustain Campus is caring about the humanity and taking part in community and campus affairs”. To achieve those goals, with the assistant of the Society of Wildness, the school started to cultivate the students as The Community Expositor. The curriculum took one year and was divided into five different sections. Those learning helped the students to realize the protection of our community and explore the amazing local adventure.

To enhance the environmental learning, the school associated with other green partner schools to compose the “Green Campus Living Map” to show the special natural environmental features of the campus. Moreover, the school constructs a ecology wet site-Yi-Cai Sustain Ecology WetWild Green House (http://www.ytps.ilc.edu.tw/nation_green/greenschool/), to exchange and gain more related information with other green school partners.

Besides the wet site, our school compiles the local ecology information into volumes- Kannabasjen Wild Green Recreation Humanity Ecology Packet Book. This packet book records the different sections of natural ecology, which includes history & humanities, plants, hydrophytes, birds dragonfly and butterfly.  Each book gives the retail information and there are the natural textbooks of our students. On Sep. 17th, 2005, Yi-Cai and the local three communities held a press conference to share the educational significance of the book to local residents.  Unlike other book conferences, Yi-Cai made it like a vivid, lively, joyful garden party which included 18 run blockades, aquatic plant meals, Chinese orchestra, gifts and some other fun games.  The party gained a high comment and it was a successful activity, which organized the strength of both community and school.

Yi-Cai elemental school has become a new, bright, opened-campus, green learning environment for all of our students.  The schools also holds the sustain campus ideals to establish the warm and fragrant campus.  It will keep the local humanity spirit, while make the effort to the school for the future generations.
